ifarmwell, a vital mental health resource for Australian farmers, needed a significant platform overhaul. Their outdated WordPress website was no longer able to support the increasingly complex demands of delivering personalized training modules and engaging farmers effectively. With mental health challenges becoming more prominent within the farming community, ifarmwell required a modern, scalable solution that could not only improve user experience but also provide a tailored, interactive approach to their wellbeing-focused content.

We approached this rebuild with a focus on personalization and long-term scalability, opting to develop a Single Page Application (SPA) using Vue.js. This allowed us to create a fluid, user-friendly interface that responds in real time, ensuring farmers could easily engage with content and complete modules without interruption. To support the depth and complexity of ifarmwell’s training material, we chose Laravel as the backend framework. This combination allowed us to handle personalized content delivery, with touchpoints like email and SMS reminders, creating a seamless experience across multiple channels of engagement.

The decision to move away from WordPress stemmed from the need for a highly dynamic system that could manage intricate user data, including progress tracking and interaction history. Vue.js and Laravel gave us the flexibility to build a system that is both responsive and secure, catering to the specific needs of ifarmwell’s users.

Our work went beyond just rebuilding the site—we ensured that ifarmwell could manage their content in a way that suits their evolving needs. The platform was built to support complex custom conditional logic, which allows them to tailor learning experiences based on user behavior. Through the integration of merge fields and tags, content could be personalized to the individual, making each user’s experience unique. For example, content and messaging displayed on the final module references choices and selections the user makes all the way back in the initial module.

The system also allows ifarmwell to incorporate various forms of media, including videos, audio clips, and other learning materials throughout their modules, making the content more engaging and accessible. The custom SMS and email systems we implemented are configurable, ensuring ongoing engagement with users at key touchpoints. We even added a “refer a mate” feature, encouraging farmers to share the resource with others, thereby extending the platform’s reach.

The result is a secure, responsive, and future-proofed platform that’s designed to grow alongside the evolving needs of the farming community. Focused on supporting farmers’ mental health and wellbeing, the platform ensures that users receive reliable, intuitive access to personalized resources. This redevelopment was pivotal in helping ifarmwell achieve their Suicide Prevention Australia accreditation, meeting the necessary criteria to further validate the platform’s impact.
