Activated OSHC

Activated OSHC is an exciting new initiative designed to help Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) services enhance their Physical Activity and Screen Time programs. Launching in March 2025, the program is aimed at providing education and training to ensure children in OSHC services are receiving optimal levels of physical activity and balanced screen time. The platform also offers practical tools, such as how to facilitate games for children and ideas for promoting daily physical activity.

As part of their growth, Activated OSHC required a platform that could not only support their extensive training modules but also provide a seamless user experience for service staff. With a major research project already underway in 192 OSHC services across South Australia, New South Wales, and Western Australia, they needed a robust, future-proof solution.

We partnered with Activated OSHC to develop a Single Page Application (SPA) using VueJS, running on a headless WordPress platform to ensure that content management is easy and accessible for their team. This setup allows staff to update educational materials, track user progress, and maintain the system without the technical complexity associated with traditional platforms.

The design of the platform was crucial—it needed to be both creative and visually engaging to reflect the playful and active nature of the program while maintaining clarity and ease of use. We focused on making the navigation intuitive, ensuring that educators could easily access their training modules and track their progress within the program.

To support the varied needs of different users, we incorporated a user hierarchy system. This feature allows service staff to access different roles based on their responsibilities, while administrators can monitor the progress of their entire service team. This organizational structure was essential for improving user engagement and accountability within the platform.

One of the key challenges in the development process was integrating the platform with their existing third-party CRM. This custom integration supports essential operational functions, including the submission of new policies, requests for signage, and the creation of support tickets. This seamless CRM integration ensures that all administrative tasks are handled efficiently, streamlining the workflow for OSHC services.

The result is a dynamic and user-friendly platform that empowers OSHC services to improve their physical activity and screen time programming. Educators can confidently engage with the training, track their progress, and submit policies for their OSHC service in order to become an accredited “Activated OSHC”.

With its fun, engaging interface and robust backend, the Activated OSHC platform is designed to scale as it becomes available to OSHC services across Australia. It not only enhances the quality of care provided to children but also helps services demonstrate excellence to families and accreditation assessors alike.
